Petrucci to miss Le Mans MotoGP

8 May 2014

Iodaracing has confirmed that its lone MotoGP rider Danilo Petrucci will miss next weekend's French Grand Prix.

The young Italian broke his wrist and suffered a dislocation of his left arm during warm-up for last Sunday's Spanish round.

Following surgery in Italy on Wednesday evening, Perucci now aiming to return for his home event at Mugello. Iodaracing, the only team using the full Aprilia ART machine, is yet to decide if it will field a replacement for Petrucci at Le Mans.

“We are delighted that the operation on Danilo was successful,” said team owner Giampiero Sacchi. “The wrist injury is quite annoying to ride a MotoGP bike, so we are in no hurry about Danilo's return.”

Sacchi also ruled out a technical failure as having caused the accident. “Regarding the crash in Jerez, after a careful analysis of the data, we were able to verify that there was no anomaly as at first stated by Petrucci,” he said.

“During the week we will decide whether and with whom to participate in the Grand Prix of France, in the meantime, we remain close to Danilo for his speedy recovery.”

Petrucci is the third MotoGP to undergo surgery this week, after arm pump operations for Dani Pedrosa and Stefan Bradl. The Honda riders expect to be back on track at Le Mans.
