John McPhee continued his impressive start to 2014 with his third top ten qualifying effort of the season in the Moto3 class at Le Mans.

The Scotsman, riding for Racing Team Germany, looked very impressive on track at Le Mans and afterwards admitted that mistakes on his fastest time cost him the opportunity to challenge for the front row.

"The bike was really good today and we found something in FP2 and we just continued on from that and have kept improving it all the time so I'm pretty chuffed with P8. We're only a few hundreds from Marquez and the last lap that I did was obviously an improvement but I made three or four mistakes and I came into the last corner thinking that I'd wasted it and not done the time so to be able to pull one out of the bag was quite nice. We're only two tenths from P3 so it's really close and I'm feeling really confident on the bike."

With teammate, Efren Vazquez, qualifying on pole position and McPhee four hundreds of a second slower than Alex Marquez it is clear that RTG are getting the most from the Honda package even though they are now running on inferior equipment to the Estrella-Galicia Honda's of Marquez and Alex Rins:

"I'm on the same spec as Efren but Marquez and Rins have an upgrade this weekend and they also went testing at Aragon. They found some more power so for me and Efren to be up there battling with them is a good feeling especially knowing that there's more to come. We don't know when we'll get the upgrades, and we're not sure how big a difference it makes but it must be something for them to use it. Hopefully in the next few races we'll get them. Tomorrow I'm aiming for top ten and if I finish there I'll be chuffed and anything higher is a bonus."
