Alex Marquez heads up the timesheets following the first day of Moto3 World Championship action at Mugello after getting his fastest lap in just before poor weather dampened proceedings.

A remarkably close session amongst the leading riders, Spaniard Marquez set his best time of 1min 58.718 with around ten minutes of the session remaining, usurping local favourite Romano Fenati by a mere 0.001secs, while championship leader Jack Miller was 0.070 further back in third

Behind the Australian, Juanfran Guevara was fourth quickest on the leading Kalex KTM entry, ahead of SKY VR46 rider Francesco Bagnaia and Mahindra's Miguel Oliviera, while Niklas Ajo, Isaac Vinales, Brad Binder, Efren Vazquez completed the top ten.

Meanwhile, Alex Rins could only manage 14th best in FP2, though he was still third fastest on the combined timesheets having proven quickest of all in FP1.
