Dani Pedrosa finds himself on the back foot following the first day of practice for the MotoGP Grand Prix of Italy in Mugello after struggling in morning practice and skipping the afternoon session.

The Spaniard, who is currently second to Repsol Honda team-mate Marc Marquez in the overall MotoGP standings, struggled to get comfortable in the dry morning session, leaving him to languish down in 11th place by the chequered flag.

With intermittent rain washing out the second practice session of the day entirely, Pedrosa has left himself with ground to make up on his key rivals.
