Andrea Dovizioso will be able to count on Ducati power as he seeks to work his way forwards from eighth on the grid for his and the team's home Mugello race.

Saturday morning saw Pramac Ducati's Andrea Iannone set a new all-time MotoGP top speed record of 349.6km/h (217.2mph). Only the Honda RC213Vs look able to hold pace with the latest Desmosedici engines made available for this weekend.

"We are not able to fight at the same level [as the leaders], but we are closer. At this track our bike works better, I'm very happy, and our engine is so fast on the straight! This will be important for the race," said Dovi.

The Italian added: "In the straight our engine is unbelievable. I was surprised this morning because first lap I was behind Lorenzo... it's nice to gain some easy tenths."

Iannone qualified second on the grid with Dovizioso's team-mate Cal Crutchlow starting sixth.

"Everybody knows Iannone is really fast. Until now he wasn't consistent, but for sure he is fast. Especially at this track, where he won two times in Moto2. He will make a good race tomorrow."
