Ducati's Andrea Dovizioso was taken by surprise as the Italian star claimed a row two three start in seventh place for the Catalunya MotoGP.

Dovizioso admitted afterwards that he didn't expect to lap as quickly as he did, setting a best time of 1m 41.337s to finish only 0.029 seconds behind the Forward Yamaha of Aleix Espargaro.

"I'm really happy about my lap time; I did not expect to make that kind of lap time," said Dovi, who was the top Ducati in qualifying.

"I'm really happy with the work of the team because from the free practice to now, we improve our set-up a lot. Our pace is quite good but we know the race will be very difficult if the temperature is like this, but I think we are working in a good way in every area and we have to be happy with that."

Probed on the possibility of a wet race in Barcelona on Sunday, Dovizioso responded: "I don't think I have ever raced on a rain tyre in my career here at Catalunya and if it rains it will be strange for everybody and difficult for everybody."

Dovizioso also criticised the high kerbs in Catalunya, which have been causing a number of riders problems over the weekend.

"It's a big problem for everybody because when the kerb inside is very high, you are not able to push your body outside of the bike," he said.

"You have to change completely the line and it's also dangerous because you have to be careful the footrest does not stick in the kerb.

"We must push to change this kind of kerb because it is not so nice to ride a bike like this. It is only this circuit. that has them I think."
