Movistar Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo reaped the benefits of the post-race Catalunya MotoGP test after finding a solution to the edge grip problems that have hampered the Spaniard this season.

Lorenzo was reluctant to elaborate on what exactly led to the breakthrough, but the two-time premier class champion is much happier with the stability of his YZR-M1.

"We tried the [new] engine for 2015 and the new front tyre from Bridgestone, which is better, especially in straight braking and maybe also in the middle of the corner for more grip," said Lorenzo, who set the third fastest time of 1m 41.515s behind Marc Marquez and Bradley Smith.

"The we tried something for more stability on the exit of the corners and I am more happy for that because this was the biggest problem that I had this year. We have found our solution for this issue so it's a pity that we found this today and not for yesterday, but for the next tracks I think [it will be] much better.

"It's quite a big improvement," he added. "Sometimes it is not so simple under pressure to find something positive, but this time we found something quite big so I'm very happy. It's been hard work from the team and that is why I am very satisfied."

Quizzed on whether the 2015 engine from Yamaha offered extra top-end power, Lorenzo said simply: "No, for the moment no. There is not so much difference."

He also tested a new exhaust system along with team-mate Valentino Rossi, but is undecided on whether it is an improvement over the current version.

"It [new exhaust] has some positive points and some negative points so we will try again and see if it is better, so we are not clear if it is better or worse," Lorenzo said.

Well I hope the solution sticks for the rest of the season.
