Monster Yamaha Tech 3's Pol Espargaro was upbeat after an encouraging performance on day one of the Dutch MotoGP.

Espargaro led the way from his brother Aleix in FP1 but was unable to repeat the trick in the afternoon session, ending FP2 0.755s down on his brother's record lap.

"I'm happy for the result this morning and also for the result this afternoon; we weren't really on top this afternoon but we had a good rhythm and we did the same fast lap times at the end of the practice alone," he said.

"It means were are okay and I'm quite happy. We used one tyre for the rear [softer option] and one we didn't test, so maybe tomorrow we will see if it is hotter or if we have a lot more time [then] we will test, but for sure I think we will use the same as last year.

"This tyre we are using right now is a good one, our pace is really good, our rhythm is really good and the tyre can make the race distance, so it means there is not a big problem to change the tyre, so we are good."

Espargaro also joked that he was told to 'slow down' by top Yamaha figure Masahiko Nakajima-san after outgunning factory riders Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi in FP1.

Asked what Nakajima had said to him when he came into the team's pit box in the morning, Espargaro said: "He said 'slowly' because the official guys don't like it! I'm joking and we were joking a little bit, so I'm happy because when he is in our box we are doing good."
