Monster Yamaha Tech 3 MotoGP rider Bradley Smith has confirmed he needs 'good results' to help his cause in terms of a 2015 contract.

"Of course it's a really important time of the year, just before the summer break" said Smith, speaking at the Sachsenring on Thursday. "We don't have anything for the future yet, so it's important to get a good result and show the performances I've been doing in tests and practice on race day."

Those performances include setting the second quickest time at the Barcelona post-race test and the third fastest race lap last time at Assen, yet the Englishman's best race result of the year remains a fifth place in Texas.

"It's definitely a strange one. A little bit mysterious at the moment," said Smith, when asked about the difference between single lap speed and race results.

Smith, tenth in the championship during his debut 2013 season, is again tenth after the first eight races of this year. Most problematic in terms of extending his contract is that rookie team-mate Pol Espargaro is ten points and three places ahead of Smith in the standings.

Espargaro has a contract direct with Yamaha for 2015, but is set to remain at Tech 3 if Jorge Lorenzo joins Valentino Rossi in re-signing for the factory team.

Pol's older brother Aleix, pictured behind Smith on Thursday and currently dominating the Open category with Forward Yamaha, is pushing for a full M1 next season.
