Inside the top three for all but the damp final practice session, Jorge Lorenzo disappointed to be left fifth in Sachsenring MotoGP qualifying.

"Fifth is definitely not what we expected, especially because we have a good pace and because we've always been in the top three during the weekend," said the Movistar Yamaha rider, who like team-mate Valentino Rossi felt there was something wrong with his second rear tyre.

"In general and especially here in qualifying we couldn't take profit from the new tyres and also the second tyre, as happened for Valentino, didn't have the same traction. I don't know why, but right from the warm-up lap I could feel it was spinning a lot and it felt like a different tyre.
