Stefan Bradl delighted the home German fans with a front row start for Sunday's Sachsenring MotoGP round.

The Honda LCR rider finished the short Qualifying 2 pole shootout behind only Repsol Honda riders Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa.

"It's a good feeling to put on a good performance at home," said Bradl. "The support has been fantastic and throughout the weekend I think we've been not far from the top guys. It's a bit strange because MotoGP is not that important or famous in Germany, but in this area they love it!"

Bradl is only eighth in the world championship with a best race finish of fourth and badly needs a podium to help strengthen his case for retaining the satellite RC213V ride.

"It would be a perfect weekend for me if we could finish on the podium tomorrow, but it is not going to be easy because I think Lorenzo and Rossi will be strong in the race and we need to see about the weather as well. It will also be very important to choose the right front tyre because this track is very demanding for the front rubber. "

The former Moto2 champion finished fourth, from fourth on the grid, at Sachsenring last year. Bradl's only previous MotoGP podium was at Laguna Seca, almost exactly one year ago.
