German MotoGP: Pol Espargaro ' really close to the limit'

"I think that we were really close to the maximum and really close to the limit because we are 0.1s to Lorenzo and Valentino" - Pol Espargaro.
The Sachsenring is one of the most technical circuits on the MotoGP calendar with riders having to learn the flow of the infield section of blind, undulating corners before tackling the fearsome Waterfall corner.

Pol Espargaro has enjoyed a promising rookie campaign with Tech3 but the Spaniard admitted that the German circuit has been a challenge for him:

"It's not an easy track," said Espargaro. "The conditions with the asphalt aren't hot, it's really cold, so we found the conditions difficult and there have been a lot of crashes, Cal also crashed in the fast corner, so it looks like it's slippery and difficult so you have to understand that it's normal.

“The corners on this track are really tight and together, the corner comes to you and you don't go to them! Also to move the MotoGP is more difficult because the bike is a bit heavier so it's been a difficult start to this weekend but we're better than at the beginning."

The Spaniard qualified eighth for tomorrow's 30 lap race and felt that while there was a little more time in the bike and himself that it was close to the maximum possible from the satellite Yamaha:

"I think that we were really close to the maximum and really close to the limit because we are 0.1s to Lorenzo and Valentino. So we have found, more or less, the limit but for sure we can improve. When we did our fastest lap we didn't actually improve on any of our sectors so for sure we can improve but I'm happy with our time."

In the race Espargaro realises that if he is to have a strong finish the key is to make the break at the start with the Factory riders and not get caught battling in the midfield with riders behind him on the grid:

"It will be difficult to fight with the top guys but the important thing is to make a good start and be with them in the first laps and to open a gap to the others so the start will be really important. The start will be really important and maybe we can be in the top seven but we'll have to fight a lot and it's really easy to crash so we'll have to pay a lot of attention during the race."
