German Moto3: Kent back on form with fifth

"I've shown that I can run at the front so these kind of results will make it easier to find a ride for next year" - Danny Kent.
Having stepped back to Moto3 this year after a single season with Tech3 in Moto3 much was expected of Danny Kent in 2014 but having endured a difficult start to the season the Englishman looks to have regained the form that saw him end 2012 as one of the top riders in the class.

Returning to the Ajo Motorsport team this winter Kent admitted that a lot of his issues in the opening seven races of the season stemmed from trying to setup his current bike like the 2012 model. That season was the first of Moto3 and since then the class and the KTM has evolved considerably and it took Kent time to lean and adapt to the bike.

A change in direction for chassis setup at Assen sparked an improvement in form but today at the Sachsenring Kent showed that he can still battle with the leaders having been in the top five throughout the race before finishing one second adrift of Jack Miller.

"At the beginning of the year we tried to work in the same way that we worked in 2012 but to be honest it was the wrong way. We tried the same sort of settings that we used with that bike but it's completely changed since then.

"At Assen we worked in the complete opposite direction and we made a step forward so we came here with a good base setting and start from where we left off in Assen and we've made the step forward here and are less than one second from the win so I'll go to Indianapolis feeling stronger."

Given his difficulties in the early season today's result came at the perfect time for Kent with the summer break giving him time to evaluate his future and start negotiations with teams.

For Kent, who won two races in 2012, today's result backs up his confidence that he can still compete at the sharp end in Moto3:

"I've always known that I could run at the front of the group but we've had a bit of bad luck at the beginning of year but I've shown that I can run at the front so these kind of results will make it easier to find a ride for next year. I haven't spoken to anyone yet about next year because I've been focusing on trying to improve this year but once we've had good results like here it'll make it easier for next year."

How is there so much on Kent (5TH) and McPhee (7tH), and NOTHING AT ALL on Binder?!?! 2ND, sticking with Miller ALL THE Way. Finisheing on the podium for the first time, on a bike not as good as the KTM or Honda, only 0.2sec behind?!?!?!
