Petrucci: Aprilia my priority for MotoGP 2015
16 July 2014
Staying with Aprilia for MotoGP 2015 is Danilo Petrucci's main priority, but the young Italian is also looking at options in World Superbikes.
Iodaracing are the only team still using the Aprilia ART (PBM use only the ART engine) and are struggling with a machine that was designed for the former CRT class.
However Aprilia is now considering bringing its official MotoGP return forward to 2015.
"I still haven't talked to Aprilia because they are still not sure if they will go into MotoGP as a factory yet [in 2015]. They will decide that this week and then I will talk to Romano, the technical director of the Racing Department,” confirmed Petrucci.
“I'd like to race with them but we still don't know if I'll remain with Ioda because this year we've had some problems with the electronics so I need to talk with Aprilia to try and solve this problem.
“I hope to remain in MotoGP but I still don't know which team it will be but my priority is to remain with Aprilia.
"The other option is to go to World Superbike and I have already talked to some Superbike teams but my first choice is to remain in MotoGP because I think haven't had a real opportunity with a real bike in MotoGP because we've always had a bike with a lot of problems. I'd like to see how I can do in MotoGP."
Petrucci, whose third MotoGP season has been interrupted by a broken wrist at Jerez, finished in the points for the second time with 15th in Sunday's German round.
The 23-year-old Italian was one of the few riders to start the formation lap on slick tyres and therefore didn't have to pit to change bikes. In the early stages of the race he rode competitively in second position before eventually falling back towards the midfield as the Factory riders came through the pack.
"I saw that the track was drying quickly so I took a risk to use the slick tyres from the start and at the end of the race my choice paid off because I managed to score one point," said Petrucci. "We made some big mistakes in qualifying so to get a point today was important for us."
