Jorge Lorenzo believes he could emerge from his worst ever start to a MotoGP season stronger than ever.

The double premier-class champion has claimed just three podiums from the first half of the 2014 championship and is fifth in the standings ahead of this Sunday's Indianapolis round.

"I've had a lot of problems and difficulties but I think these difficulties could make me stronger. Learn from my mistakes and the things I've done in a bad way," said Lorenzo, hit hard by the revised 2014 tyre construction and lacking his usual physical strength due to winter surgery.

Lorenzo was speaking shortly after the long-awaited announcement that he has agreed a new two year contract with Yamaha.

"I'm really happy to sign this new contract with Yamaha," said Lorenzo. "I always said that my first option was to stay with Yamaha and my dream is to finish my career with Yamaha, never to change team.

"At the end of this contract I will have achieved nine seasons with Yamaha, so I'm really proud and happy."
