MotoGP Indianapolis: Rossi: I was like Ron Haslam at the start!

Valentino Rossi compares his flying start in the Indianapolis MotoGP to Ron Haslam's lighting-fast heroics of the past as Yamaha rider takes rostrum finish in third
Movistar Yamaha's Valentino Rossi had few complaints after the Italian legend took another rostrum finish at the Indianapolis MotoGP.

Rossi made a terrific start and led the race in the early stages before battling with eventual winner Marc Marquez and team-mate Jorge Lorenzo.

“I did a fantastic start like Ron Haslam in the past! From the second row,” said Rossi. “I know it was very important to try to arrive at the front and after I enjoyed the first laps a lot. I had a good pace and was riding quite well.

“I tried to stay in front. I knew that Marc was a little bit faster. He overtook me and I tried to go with him and open the gap, especially to Jorge. But also Jorge arrived. I wanted to fight more with him but today he was stronger than me in two or three places, where he could turn the bike in a better way,” he added.

“Anyway I'm satisfied because it's a good third place. I enjoyed it. I led the race and I battled with Marc and Jorge that is always a great pleasure. Also this track is one of the worst for me,” said Rossi.

“To come back on the podium after a lot of seasons without a good result here is good.”

Looking ahead to the next race at Brno, Rossi is hopeful he can reproduce some of his best performances from the past at the Czech venue.

“Brno is one of my best tracks in the past. I did some crucial races for the championships and I also won the first race of my career,” he said.

“But in the last races I was not very strong, also last year. So I'll have to do like this weekend, try to improve my riding style, find a better line, work well in the pits and try to make another good result.”

Rossi is now just for points behind Marquez's team-mate Dani Pedrosa for second in the world championship.

dazza0501: And what difference did it make. Beaten easily by marc and jorge! You've got to have balanced pace the whole race not fall away at end!
yeah tell that to the people not on the podium!

Well done VR. Great start and constant race. Keep up the great work and have another go next time out. Some comments crack me up....."easily beaten" says dazza. Well 3 seconds is obviously the difference between beaten easily and not. Rossi lost by 5+ seconds and Jlo by 2+ seconds yet no mention of Jlo being beaten easily. Well, I suppose this is a VR thread. I'll go and look at the Jlo thread for your same comment dazza!
