Marc Marquez will start his quest for a perfect eleventh win of the MotoGP season from pole position at Brno.

Having towed Andrea Iannone to the top, the reigning world champion pulled clear of the Pramac Ducati rider to regain pole on his penultimate lap.

Factory Ducati rider Andrea Dovizioso later squeezed into second place, 0.129s behind Marquez's Repsol Honda and 0.012s in front of future team-mate Iannone. The Desmosedici riders have access to the Open class soft rear tyre.

Monster Yamaha Tech 3's Bradley Smith celebrated his new contract by being the top M1 rider in fourth place (+0.145s) after leaping from twelfth on his final lap.

Marquez's team-mate Dani Pedrosa and Movistar Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo were left a disappointing fifth and sixth, albeit within 0.260s from pole.

Valentino Rossi's qualifying was thrown into doubt by a finger injury in final practice, when the Italian had set the fastest lap. The Movistar Yamaha squeezed his bandaged hand back into a modified glove for qualifying and claimed seventh on the grid.

Stefan Bradl (LCR Honda) and Pol Espargaro (Tech 3) will join Rossi on row three on a day when the top nine were covered by 0.32s!

While their team-mates claimed a place on the front row, Cal Crutchlow (+0.544s) and Yonny Hernandez (+1.037s) propped up the session in eleventh and twelfth.
