MotoGP champion Marc Marquez remained half a second clear of his rivals during Friday afternoon practice for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

Quickest by 0.661s this morning, the Repsol Honda star pushed his advantage to over one second for much of the afternoon session.

LCR Honda's Stefan Bradl eventually responded to close the gap to 0.509s, with Factory Ducati's Andrea Dovizioso repeating his morning position in third (+0.885s).

But the biggest cheers of the day went to home stars Bradley Smith and Scott Redding, who finished fourth and sixth respectively.

Smith rode his Tech 3 Yamaha to a time 0.944s from Marquez and was the only M1 rider in the top ten. Gresini rookie Redding, who won last year's British Moto2 race and is seeking an RC213V ride for next year, was the top Open class rider.

Between them was Pramac Ducati's Yonny Hernandez, who also put in an admirable performance on last year's GP13.

Hernandez's team-mate Andrea Iannone (second to Marquez this morning), Redding's Factory class team-mate Alvaro Bautista, Marquez's team-mate Dani Pedrosa and Forward Yamaha's Aleix Espargaro completed the top ten.

Pedrosa, who ended Marquez's unbeaten run last time at Brno, was not the only high profile rider lower down the timesheets with Jorge Lorenzo the leading Factory Yamaha in eleventh (+1.374s).

Pol Espargaro (Tech 3) and Valentino Rossi were likewise just twelfth and 13th, followed by British star Cal Crutchlow (Ducati).

Rain remained a constant threat in the cool, cloudy and windy conditions.
