MotoGP riders will get their first taste of the new Michelin control tyres during testing at Sepang in February.

Michelin, which left MotoGP when the single tyre rule was introduced in 2009, is taking over from Bridgestone in 2016.

As part of preparations for the rubber change, which will include switching from 16.5 to 17-inch wheels, all of next year's pre-season tests will have an extra day exclusively for Michelin testing.

According to the official MotoGP website, the opening Sepang test will take place from February 4-7. The first three days will be as normal, with Factory test riders then trying the Michelin tyres on February 7.

However the Michelin test at the next Sepang test (February 23-26) will be 'open to all contracted riders' and thus see the likes of Marc Marquez, Dani Pedrosa, Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo try the next generation tyres for the first time.

The opening day at the third and final pre-season test, in Qatar in March, will then revert to test rider only status on the Michelins. The opening 2015 MotoGP round will be held back at the Losail circuit 'in mid to late March'.

Michelin won 26 500cc/MotoGP titles from 1976-2006, losing out to Bridgestone in 2007 and 2008.
