Dorna and the Circuit of Wales have reached an agreement with Donington Park to host next year's British round of the MotoGP World Championship.

The Circuit of Wales was recently announced as taking over the British MotoGP contract from Silverstone, but building work is yet to begin and an alternative venue was needed for next season.

Although many predicted a further year at Silverstone, MotoGP will instead be returning to a circuit that held the British Motorcycle Grand Prix from 1987 to 2009, when Donington lost out to Silverstone.

The Leicestershire circuit will now focus on promotion of the 2015 event and any upgrades required to comply with MotoGP standards.

"After announcing the long-term MotoGP agreement between Dorna and the Circuit of Wales three weeks ago our priority has been to agree the venue for 2015," explained Chris Herring of the Circuit of Wales.

"It is in the interests of everyone, especially the fans, to make a decision as soon as possible and in Donington Park we have a venue that shares our vision for growing MotoGP in the UK."

Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta commented: "The Circuit of Wales has worked very quickly to secure the best deal for the British race fans and we believe Donington Park will deliver a fantastic race in 2015.

"Donington Park has a long history and has been the scene of some of the most exciting MotoGP races in recent years and we are sure that the extensive works undertaken since it reopened four years ago will guarantee a successful event."

While Silverstone - home of the British F1 Grand Prix - undoubtedly has the best Motorsport facilities in the UK, many riders and fans prefer the undulating Donington track layout.

The date for the 2015 British MotoGP is expected to be announced later this month

Oh, dear...

Yearby23: Brilliant news. A million times better than Silverstone.
It can't possibly be a million times better. The last two years saw close results at Silverstone.

But yeah, there's something about Donington...Craner curves, Melbourne hairpin, Redgate... I always regard Silverstone as a Formula 1 track, because it just is. However, the fact is, we've had some close racing there with bikes.

Anyway, Donington IS more like a bike track, and it has seen some great racing over the years...Kevin Schwantz comes to mind.[\blockquote]
Agree 100% more a bike track! too far away at Silverstone due to F1 needing big run off's, and just too big, 1st and 2nd this and last year was good, but the rest to strung out, welcome back Donnington.

I have not been since it left Donnington and will return next year, we dont live far away from there and funnily enough I have been around there as my Son is hopeful of being taken on at Norton Motorcycles.

But yea what great news I have been there 3 times, met James Toseland and Jeremy Burgess at Donnington too.

Can't wait for it.
