MotoGP champion Marc Marquez will get his first chance to equal Mick Doohan's all-time record of twelve wins in a season, this weekend at Misano.

After a brief victory interruption at Brno, Marquez returned to winning ways with a forceful win over Jorge Lorenzo at Silverstone.

That means Marquez has suffered just one defeat from the twelve races this year and has six rounds left in which to match, then beat, former Repsol Honda rider Doohan's 1997 record.

"It was nice to be back on the top step of the podium in Silverstone, the team did a great job the whole weekend," said 21-year-old Marquez. "Now we head to Misano which is a smaller and slower track compared to others on the calendar.

"We will have to work hard from Friday to get the set-up on the bike just right, to suit the demands on braking at this twisty track and let's hope the weather is also nice!"

Marquez won at Misano 2010 (125cc), 2011 (Moto2) and 2012 (Moto2), finishing second to Jorge Lorenzo last year on his maiden MotoGP visit.

Marquez currently holds an 89-point lead over Repsol Honda team-mate Dani Pedrosa.

If Marquez can raise his title lead to at least 100-points by the end of the following Aragon round he will have wrapped up his second title with four races remaining.
