Andrea Dovizioso put Ducati on top of the timesheets by over one-second during a wet Free Practice 2 for their home MotoGP at Misano.

After the FP1 carnage - which saw eight riders fall in the opening 15-minutes, then Danilo Petrucci make it nine at the end of the session - the hard Bridgestone wet tyres were swapped for softs this afternoon.

Conditions were again cool and fully wet, although the intensity of the rain was reduced relative to the morning, when Yonny Hernandez was fastest by 1.7s from world champion Marc Marquez.

While the start of the morning had seen the most incidents, it would be the end of the afternoon that produced a constant stream of fallers: Bradley Smith, Alvaro Bautista, Karel Abraham, Scott Redding and then Alex de Angelis.

Dovizioso had tumbled early in the 45-minutes but returned to take the top spot from Marquez with eight minutes remaining. The Italian, buoyed by a strong race performance last time at Silverstone and a prior (dry) test at Misano, then continued to improve and concluded the session 1.161s clear of a Repsol Honda.

But it wasn't Marquez. Team-mate Dani Pedrosa moved 0.163s clear of the runaway title leader on his final lap with Italian Danilo Petrucci - yet to sign for 2015 - using the slippery conditions to show his skills with fourth place for Ioda Aprilia.

Shortly before the session Aprilia confirmed a Factory MotoGP return with the Gresini team next season.

Hernandez was pushed down to fifth in FP2, followed by Stefan Bradl (LCR Honda) and defending triple Misano winner Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha).

Andrea Iannone, who needed ice on his right foot after falling in FP1, fell again shortly after moving to the top early in FP2. The Italian finished in ninth with countryman and local hero Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha) completing the top ten, 2.543s behind Marquez.

Better weather is forecast for Saturday and Sunday. If dry, Saturday's FP3 will be the only session to decide which riders gain direct access to Qualifying 2.

Good effort but I want to see how he does in the dry, which is what is forecast for Saturday & Sunday. Dovi claimed Ducati had made a major step forward during their recent private test at Misano so let's see whether he can top the timesheets tomorrow.
