Andrea Iannone bounced back after two spills in Friday's free practice at Misano to seal a brilliant front row start for the San Marino MotoGP.

The Pramac Ducati rider slotted into second place and was only 0.051s behind Jorge Lorenzo as he split the Movistar Yamaha riders, with Valentino Rossi only a mere 0.013s further back in third.

It was an excellent result for Iannone, who was caught out twice by the difficult conditions on Friday.

"Yesterday was a very difficult day for me because I crashed two times, but it was very difficult conditions because the grip was so low," Iannone said.

"I try to do my best every time but a crash is always possible. Today is better for me and it is a good day because for me the first row is very important."

Iannone clocked his fastest time on the soft Bridgestone rubber available to the Open class riders but remains unsure whether or not he will stick with the soft option for the race.

"I don't know because in testing I tried a soft tyre for a full race; it is complicated because for the first five or six laps then I can go faster than with the other tyres but I don't know, it's a very difficult decision for me.

"I have worked on my technique and I think it's very important to find a setting to use the medium tyres because it is difficult to make the soft tyres last for the full race duration."
