With world champion marc Marquez qualifying off the front row for the first time this year, Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo were asked who they thought would be their main rival for victory in Sunday's Misano race.

Local star Rossi, who qualified on the front row for the first time this season, replied:

"Difficult to say. Today I want to say Jorge. Looking at practice he is the man to beat. But you never know with Marc [laughs]. He's a bastard! For sure he will try tomorrow more than 100 percent to win, so we have to wait for the race."

Lorenzo, who took Yamaha's first pole of the year, added: "I hope [my main rival] is Valentino, but I also hope he finishes behind me!"

MotoGP champion Marquez has been beaten just once this year, by his Repsol Honda team-mate Dani Pedrosa. However Lorenzo has won at Misano for the last three years.

Rossi meanwhile will be seeking his first MotoGP win since Assen last year.

"I hope but MotoGP changes day by day. Today is like this. I feel good with the bike. I'm confident. I know to try to arrive at the front I have to fight at the maximum with Jorge and Marc for sure, also Dani and maybe the Ducatis. We will see tomorrow."
