Movistar Yamaha's Valentino Rossi was a second off the top time set by Andrea Dovizioso during Aragon MotoGP free practice after experimenting with the hard rear Bridgestone tyre.

Misano race winner Rossi, who tested at Aragon along with team-mate Jorge Lorenzo earlier this season when track temperatures were vastly different, had ended FP1 in the morning in sixth position but slipped further behind in FP2, ending the day in 10th place.

"Together with Yamaha and Bridgestone we decided to try the hard rear to understand if it's good option but it proved difficult," said Rossi.

"At the same time I struggled with the front as I was suffering some under steer so we decided to try the soft front; that was not so bad.

"We made some important data for tomorrow because we tried all the combinations. We need to work a lot as we suffer with rear grip and corner speed," he added.

"The bike is difficult to ride and I'm not fast enough so tomorrow we have to improve a lot."

Rossi's best lap was 1m 49.312s and the Italian superstar has plenty of work on his plate this weekend if he's to match his performance levels from Misano in the previous round.
