MotoGP qualifying at Aragon had a more familiar feel about it as Repsol Honda's Marc Marquez shattered the lap record to take pole position.

Marquez, who started from row two of the grid at Misano in the previous round, edge out team-mate Dani Pedrosa as the pair completed a Honda one-two at their home circuit.

Marquez's lap of 1m 47.187s was also a new record, giving the world champion the number one spot on the grid by 0.362s as he lapped sixth tenths faster than he managed in 2013.

"Qualifying went very well, continuing the form that we have had so far this weekend," said Marquez. "We have focused a lot of our work on our race pace, looking less at setting a one-off lap time and more at finding a strong pace."

Marquez, who has looked equally impressive on both the medium and hard rear tyres, added: "Things are looking good for the race, although Dani also has a very good pace, so we'll have to see tomorrow.

"The weather looks a little unstable for Sunday but it will be the same for everybody and we hope for a dry race in front of our fans, because for the show it is much better."

Pedrosa had hit the top in Q2 with a time of 1m 47.549s to lead Marquez by 0.023s, only for the 21-year-old to respond is blistering fashion to secure his 20th MotoGP pole start.

Marquez will have his latest chance to equal Mick Doohan's all-time record of twelve wins in a season on Sunday, but cannot mathematically wrap up the 2014 title.

Whooligan: Race-pace-wise it looks like a walk in the park for Marc Marquez tomorrow. Lets hope for an exciting battle for second.[\blockquote]

Yes....first ,race-pace-like it looks like a walk in the park for factory-Honda...then one for MM of that team... The prediction is that factory Honda will be on the podium and the rest can take one step. Either Rossi, Lorenzo, Dovizioso and maybe Pol?
