Andrea Iannone continued the Ducati GP14.2's impressive debut by claiming a front row start for Sunday's Aragon MotoGP.

Only Pramac's Iannone and 2015 Factory team-mate Andrea Dovizioso have the evolution bike available - with which they each led a session on Friday.

Dovizioso then fell in qualifying, but Iannone took third on the grid with a lap 0.498s from pole sitter Marc Marquez - albeit while using the special soft rear tyre not available to the Factory class Honda and Yamaha riders.

"It's always important to start for the first row and I'm very happy. I hope for a good start and I'll try my best for the race," said the Italian.

"I used the soft tyre in qualifying, which helped me a lot. The bike's turning improved a lot as well as more grip from the soft tyre, but it's true for the race I won't use this tyre. But I'm happy with my race pace and I think tomorrow we can fight for a good result."

Asked about the differences between the slimmer GP14.2 and standard GP14, Iannone replied: "The engine has more power, but the chassis is very similar."

Although he had used the soft rear tyre, Iannone set his best lap time without a tow - having been thwarted in his efforts to follow Marquez. "In the last run I was waiting to follow Marc, but he didn't want to push! So I went on my own and improved my lap time."

Iannone best MotoGP result is a fifth place, which he has claimed three times in the last five rounds.

Dovizioso will start from ninth on the grid with present team-mate Cal Crutchlow, who does not have the 14.2, qualifying fifth.
