If Esteve Rabat outscores Maverick Vinales by one point in Japan this weekend, the Marc VDS team will be guaranteed to win its first ever world title.

Third in the standings Vinales is 74 points behind Rabat and a 75 point deficit after Sunday's race would be impossible for the future Suzuki MotoGP rider to overcome.

But the championship battle between Rabat and team-mate Mika Kallio would continue, the pair currently being separated by 33 points.

"This weekend could be an immensely important one for the Marc VDS Racing Team," confirmed team principal Michael Bartholemy. "Should Tito score one more point in the race than Maverick Vi?ales then we will go into the final three races of the season knowing that the 2014 Moto2 World Champion will be a Marc VDS rider.

"This fact adds some pressure, sure, but our approach this weekend will be the same as it's been for every other weekend and I'm confident that both Tito and Mika will be up there and fighting for the win on Sunday, regardless of the points situation."

Marc VDS finished second in the last year's Moto2 championship with Scott Redding, who will re-join the team for its new Honda MotoGP project in 2015.
