Despite being caught out by the Aragon rain, Andrea Dovizioso has already scored more points than during the whole of the 2013 MotoGP season.

The Ducati star, who has claimed two rostrums this year, is also a confident 30 points clear of Aleix Espargaro in the fight for fifth in the world standings.

The Italian has been a consistent top three contender in qualifying and/or races since the summer break and is 'very motivated' for this weekend's Motegi round.

"Motegi is a track that I like, especially because I am a hard braker and this is an advantage, due to the characteristics of the track," said Dovizioso.

"I think that our GP14 can again be competitive in Japan, because in the last four races we have always been competitive at circuits with completely different characteristics. So for sure we'll be going to Motegi very motivated!

"Here I've scored some good results in MotoGP, especially in 2010 when I set pole position, my only pole so far in MotoGP, and then finished the race with a great second place."

Dovizioso and Pramac's Andrea Iannone each received one of the revised GP14.2 Ducatis last time at Aragon.

Dovi probably has a fair chance of a good result here.
The stop and go nature of Motegi plays to the strengths of the bike (stable under hard barking, powerful motor, good traction out of a corner) and masks the understeer deficiencies and Ducati has a pretty good record here over the years.
I guess it depends whether the medium compound tyres can last the distance.
