Scott Redding, Marc VDS Honda MotoGP deal official

Marc VDS officially confirms 2015 MotoGP debut, running Scott Redding on Factory class Honda machinery.
The Marc VDS team has officially confirmed its move to the MotoGP class in 2015, running Scott Redding on a Factory class Honda.

Parts of the deal had been announced via Twitter in mid-September, but a full statement has only now been issued by the title-leading Moto2 team. It confirms a two-year contract for Redding, who previously spent four seasons at the Belgian team in the intermediate class.

That means the young Englishman would potentially be available to step up to the Repsol Honda team when the contracts of Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa conclude at the end of 2016.

“I would like to say a big thank you to everyone that has helped us to achieve our aim of racing in the premier MotoGP class, with what is clearly the most competitive bike available,” said Marc VDS team principal Michael Bartholemy, who previously ran the factory Kawasaki MotoGP project.

“Without their help, and the continued support of Marc van der Straten, this move would have remained a dream for us, but now it is a reality. Obviously we are looking forward to welcoming Scott Redding back to the fold next year, but our focus for now must be on the Moto2 World Championship, which we are currently leading with both of our riders.”

Marc VDS is taking over the RC213V previously made available for the Gresini team.

Redding is effectively moving with that bike, having spent his rookie MotoGP season at Gresini, riding an Open class Honda. Redding had been expecting to succeed team-mate Alvaro Bautista on the Factory bike in 2015, but Gresini will instead become the official Aprilia team.

Marc VDS team president Marc van der Straten stated: “It is a great honour to be associated with Honda at the very top level of two-wheeled motorsport, especially as we are a relatively new team to the Grand Prix paddock. But, while newcomers we may be, I think we have shown quite clearly that we are there to race and there to win, which I believe reflects Honda's philosophy also.

“I am excited about this new project, especially as it means a return to the Marc VDS racing family of Scott Redding, with whom we enjoyed a long and successful association in Moto2.”

Marc VDS is comfortably on target to win its first world championship this season, with Esteve Rabat and team-mate Mika Kallio first and second in the Moto2 standings.

Rabat will remain with Marc VDS in Moto2 next year, where he will be joined by Alex Marquez, brother of MotoGP champion Marc.
