MotoGP Australia: Pressure-free Marquez has ‘nothing to lose’

Having wrapped up the 2014 MotoGP title in Japan, Australian MotoGP pole sitter Marc Marquez says he can just enjoy a fight for victory at Phillip Island.
Newly crowned 2014 MotoGP champion Marc Marquez says he can simply focus on enjoying a fight for victory in the Australian MotoGP race at Phillip Island after notching up a 12th pole position of the season.

His first race weekend since successfully firming the defence of his MotoGP World Champion title in Motegi, Marquez shrugged off an indifferent start to the Australian event to power to yet another top spot, which in turn puts him level with Casey Stoner for pole positions achieved in a single season.

Indeed, a relaxed Marquez says he is feeling good ahead of the Phillip Island race, even if the Repsol Honda rider is not discounting the likely threat from in-form Yamaha riders Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi

“Always you feel pressure, but this weekend riding the bike feels much better,” he said. “I have nothing to lose, just enjoy the race and fight for the victory.

“This weekend has not been easy for anybody,” he continued. “It is quite hard because we have had to adapt to the new rear tyre but we have been getting better and better and the lap times we improved a lot, especially in qualifying.

“Tomorrow looks really tight. Everybody is so strong, especially the Yamaha riders so it will be a tough race and tough battle, but we will try to enjoy the race.”
