Dani Pedrosa is hoping for predominantly dry conditions on Saturday after heading the times in FP1 at Sepang.

The Repsol Honda rider took the top spot in the morning before a tropical storm hit the Malaysian circuit prior to FP2 in the afternoon.

Pedrosa's fastest lap of 2m 01.379s set on the soft compound Bridgestone rear put him 0.014s ahead of Forward Yamaha's Aleix Espargaro.

"We were able to ride in the dry this morning and set some good times, but in the afternoon the rain arrived. We shall see what the weather is like tomorrow, and hope to get more dry track time to finish analysing the performance of the front and rear tyres," Pedrosa said.

"We only used the soft compound this morning and we would like to try the harder compound. I had a problem with the wet rear, which had hardly any tyre wear after 14 laps, but no grip from the beginning.

"We hope to continue developing the set-up of the bike tomorrow and be able to ride with a tyre that works well."

Pedrosa was third fastest in the wet behind team-mate Marquez, lapping in 2m 15.582s.
