MotoGP Valencia: Crutchlow: Front row was within our reach

British star Cal Crutchlow was left disappointed with third row start in eighth place in final qualifying for the Valencia MotoGP
Ducati's Cal Crutchlow felt he had the pace to challenge for the front two rows during final qualifying at Valencia, but said increasingly windy conditions wrecked his hopes.

The British rider, having his final race on the Ducati this weekend as the season reaches a conclusion, qualified on row three of the grid in eighth place but feels he could have been in the top six.

“Obviously today wasn't the best and I felt we could've gone quicker; we should've been on the front or second row. I think that me and Andrea [Dovizioso] both struggled with the same problem, we struggled with the wind and it was a lot different than in FP4,” Crutchlow said.

“I had some really bad feeling with the rear tyre, some bad vibrations, and I wasn't able to improve the lap time like I would have liked.

“To be eighth is not so bad because it's the third row of the grid but I'm just disappointed with how far off the front we were because I believe with a good feeling with the rear tyre we would've been able to compete for the front two rows.”

Crutchlow, set to join LCR Honda for 2015, says an exciting race is in prospect at the Spanish circuit, with the top ten riders covered by six tenths of a second.

“It seems that everyone has quite a similar race pace so you could see quite a battle; I'd say there's three or four guys who have a bit better pace but it's such a short circuit and everyone is braking at the limit and making the lap time all in different places,” he said.

“I think tomorrow you will see quite a good race because everyone is so close and the key is to preserve the rear tyre and it will be difficult with 27 laps.”

Crutchlow's fastest lap of 1m 31.359s was 0.516s off the top time set by Valentino Rossi as he finished 0.067s ahead of team-mate Dovizioso.

@ Codger Journalists ask the questions, the interviewee answers them and without that you couldn't comment, so instead of slagging Cal for giving his reasons thank him for fulfilling your life You could move along and post comments on the Dovi thread but the guy had a mare and was bested by Cal and has went into total silence and sulky lockdown mode
