Valencia MotoGP Test: ‘Comfortable’ Petrucci tops wet Tuesday

Danilo Petrucci at home in the wet, team-mate Yonny Hernandez makes GP14.2 debut.
Danilo Petrucci went to the top of the MotoGP timesheets during his second day of testing as a Pramac Ducati rider, at Valencia on Tuesday.

The Italian, who has battled uncompetitive machinery at Ioda for three seasons, quickly looked at home in the cold and wet conditions.

Riding the Desmosedici GP14.0, Petrucci finished the day with a fall, but remained over one-second clear of nearest rival Nicky Hayden (Aspar) as only ten riders set a lap time.

“It was a useful day to get used to the bike in wet conditions,” Petrucci said. “It was very cold and the asphalt has never exceeded 13 degrees. It was not easy but I felt good as the wet conditions are not a problem for me.

“I'm sorry for the crash, but fortunately there were no significant damage to the bike. I'm happy for the fastest time and especially for the first two days of test with Pramac Racing. I feel very comfortable with my new Team.”

Team-mate Yonny Hernandez, making his debut on the GP14.2, also led the timesheets on his way to sixth place (+2.0s).

“Due to the weather conditions it has been very difficult to feel the difference between the GP14.0 and the GP14.2, even if this is clearly a different bike,” admitted Hernandez, who raced a GP13 this season.

“It was important to get information for the wet, but it's clear that I hope to ride the bike tomorrow in the dry. Anyway the first impression on GP14.2 was very good even in the rain and it has been confirmed by the quite good time I made.”

Better weather is forecast for Wednesday's third and final day.
