Former MotoGP racer and Aprilia tester Alex Hofmann is to become a KTM development rider, ahead of the Austrian factory's 2017 premier-class debut.

The 34-year-old, who has also been doing MotoGP commentary for German TV, told Speedweek.com: "The seven years with Aprilia have officially ended. Next year I'm going to do the new MotoGP project with KTM."

Hofmann raced for Kawasaki and Ducati in MotoGP between 2003 and 2007. His principle role at Aprilia was to help develop the RSV4, which has won three World Superbike riders' titles, as well as the modified ART version used in MotoGP.
