Hofmann becomes KTM MotoGP test rider

"Next year I'm going to do the new MotoGP project with KTM"
Former MotoGP racer and Aprilia tester Alex Hofmann is to become a KTM development rider, ahead of the Austrian factory's 2017 premier-class debut.

The 34-year-old, who has also been doing MotoGP commentary for German TV, told "The seven years with Aprilia have officially ended. Next year I'm going to do the new MotoGP project with KTM."

Hofmann raced for Kawasaki and Ducati in MotoGP between 2003 and 2007. His principle role at Aprilia was to help develop the RSV4, which has won three World Superbike riders' titles, as well as the modified ART version used in MotoGP.

The KTM MotoGP prototype is expected to make its track debut in mid-to-late 2015.

Aprilia will have a new engine for their MotoGP project. They won't just chuck the RSV4's engine there. Also, Aprilia make decent chassis. I f Aprilia is serious, in max 2,3 seasons they can catch Honda and Yamaha. The first essential of developing a good bike is the "will" for it.

I hope they can make their motogp bike better than their AMA superbike. They can't even podium in an extremely watered down AMA. I do wish them the best though as they make a killer road bike.
