Casey Stoner to continue Honda MotoGP tests

“We are delighted to start the New Year by announcing the continued cooperation with Casey Stoner"
Retired double MotoGP champion Casey Stoner will continue testing for Honda during 2015.

The Australian left grand prix at the end of 2012, at the age of just 27, but has since returned to the RCV during occasional private test sessions.

Stoner's most recent outing was at Motegi in October, when he worked on this year's race bikes and also the 2016 Michelin tyres.

Such development duties are to continue this year, with Stoner next on track at Sepang in Malaysia from January 29-31, a few days before the first official test of the year at the same venue.

“After having a long break from riding, it was refreshing to get back on a bike a few months ago!" Stoner said. "Now after a relaxing Christmas and New Year I'm happy to announce that I've been speaking to Nakamoto san and we have come to an agreement in continuing our relationship. I am currently preparing to ride in Sepang in a few weeks - which will be very different weather and humidity to Motegi - so I need to get myself fit!”

“We are very happy to be able to start 2015 by announcing the continuation of our relationship with Casey and keep him in the Honda family," declared HRC vice president Shuhei Nakamoto. "The feedback he gives HRC is invaluable and we are fortunate to have a test rider capable to push the RC213V to its limits.”

Stoner, Ducati's only MotoGP champion before winning a second crown at Honda, will take part in at least one further test after Sepang.

Honda has not released any lap times from Stoner's test sessions.

Marc Marquez took over Stoner's Repsol Honda race seat and will be aiming for a perfect third successive MotoGP title in 2015.

TF2: Stoner's introverted personality and probably his passport would never see him backed fully by Repsol & HRC (or from Dorna, who seem to be relying an awful lot on trying to make MM the heir-apparent to replace VR) to compete on a level playing field head-to-head with MM. .
What a load of crap. Did HRC/Repsol back Dani to a higher degree when he was teamed with Stoner, Nakamoto literally cried when he couldnt convince Casey to stay. He absolutely loves the kid and offered him double what they just reportedly re signed Marquez for. He has let him know on numerous occasions that a bike with his name on it is waiting, just say the word.
