Lorenzo ‘never trained so hard’ ahead of MotoGP 2015

A fitter, leaner Spaniard believes an injury free offseason and intense training regime will boost his MotoGP championship hopes.
A trim Jorge Lorenzo greeted the press during Movistar Yamaha's team launch in Madrid while claiming that he has been training harder than ever ahead of the 2015 MotoGP season.

Three off-season operations contributed to a lack of overall fitness and several underwhelming performances at the beginning of 2014, a year which fell below the Majorcan's usual high, consistent standards. Yet one year on and Lorenzo is feeling the benefits of an injury-free winter and a grueling fitness regime.

“I have never trained as much as I did this winter,” said the four-time world champion. “The feelings are good. Last year I finished the season very well and now I want to always finish on the podium and we'll see where I'll be at the end of the year.

"In 2013 the operations in the winter demanded a lot of my strength. Maybe I expended too much energy. I also found that I had to plan the preparation better in winter. In this case, I might have made a few mistakes in the past. But I never make mistakes twice.

"For 2015 I will be in much better shape. I am currently training extremely hard. I have just returned from Andorra, where I went skiing in the mountains. I feel very good. Since I graduated to the MotoGP class I've never been so fit. I am perfectly prepared for the test in Sepang. This year was all planned out perfectly and I have worked on all of my weaknesses.”

Taking comfort from his mid-season resurgence in the second half of 2014, Lorenzo knows that he will need to continually add to his tally of 33 MotoGP wins should he want to reclaim the championship he won in 2010 and 2012.

“The last season ended pretty well. I collected the most points in the second half of the season but I only finished third overall. Marc had a very strong season and Valentino was stronger than I expected. I have to continue in 2015 as I did at the end of 2014 but I have to win more. I want to fight for the world title."

Lorenzo believes he is now thinner than when he first graduated to the MotoGP class in 2008 and that, coupled with the strong base setting he and his team found midway through 2014, is a cause for optimism.

“This year we have high hopes with the new M1 because in 2014 we could fight for the podium regularly during the second half of the season. I am convinced that this year things will change and both Yamaha and I will put all our efforts to try to achieve the goal that is simple: to fight for the title.

"Last year many things happened but I've also learned a lot and I think we can compensate and make a great year. I'm waiting to kick off the coming season in Qatar!“

He looks a lot slimmer, like when Valentino came back after winter last year. The Yamaha boys will be right there this year. Lets hope they can have a good start to the season and keep Marquez under pressure throughout.
