Bridgestone pledge ‘fastest’ final MotoGP season

“I believe that this year's MotoGP season will be the fastest yet”
Bridgestone believes its final season as official tyre supplier to the MotoGP World Championship will also be 'the fastest yet'.

The Japanese manufacturer has fulfilled the role of single supplier since it was introduced for the 2009 season. However Bridgestone is stepping down at the end of this year and will be replaced by Michelin.

Speaking ahead of this weekend's opening pre-season test at Sepang, Bridgestone Motorsport manager Hiroshi Yamada said: “Just like the MotoGP manufacturers and teams, Bridgestone has been busy over the winter break as we've been developing new tyres for the riders to evaluate during the pre-season tests.

“In recent seasons we've focused on delivering tyres which are safer, more 'user friendly' and with superior levels of performance. In 2015 we will further build on these qualities to deliver our greatest ever racing tyres to the MotoGP World Championship.

“The Sepang tests are the first chance each season for MotoGP fans to see the riders out on track and, with the return of Aprilia and Suzuki to the series, as well as a host of talented riders entering the championship, I expect that the 2015 pre-season testing will be closely followed by racing fans around the world.”

Tyre development manager Shinji Aoki added that the 2015 tyres have been revised to cope with the improved performance of the Open class competitors, who have access to a softer grade of rear tyre. He also believes this season will be the fastest yet.

“It is evident from the Valencia test last year that the performance of the Open class machines in 2015 will be considerably greater than last year, and the tyre allocation we've brought to Sepang reflects this.

“Testing at a demanding circuit like Sepang will provide an even better indication of the respective performance levels of the 2015 Factory and Open class bikes, and the data we acquire here will help steer our development for the upcoming season.

“As always, our main priority for tyre development is enhancing the safety of the riders, however, I expect that the riders will find that our 2015 specification tyres also give better performance. I believe that this year's MotoGP season will be the fastest yet.”

Nine new race lap records set during last year's 18-round season.

For the first Sepang test, the softer rear slick allocation comprises the soft symmetric and medium asymmetric rear slick, while the harder rear slick allocation is the asymmetric medium and symmetric medium compound rears.

The front options for all riders at Sepang will be the medium compound in addition to the new hard compound front slick which was first introduced at last October's Malaysian Grand Prix.

clearly Bridgestone wants to set a milestone against Michelin interms of lap times... let us see what kind of rubber BS bring this year... i guess they are gonna come with improved edge grip to gain time in corners...

Edwards said the Mich rear tyre was good but the front didn't let you get away with as much as the Bridgestone. He likes the feel but then again he was a Michelin test rider for ages so of course he's going to say that No surprise on the difference in front tyre performance as even during competition era the Bridgestone front was miles ahead of the Mich. I don't think they'll have the speed or performance, but it will be interesting to see if it mixes up the order. I do think that this season will be the quickest we will see in MotoGP for a long time, the last few years the riders on Bridgestone's have gone faster and faster, don't think they'll be able to push that extra 1% and get the same crazy lean angles on next year's tyres.
