Moto3: Rookie Quartararo sets opening 2015 pace

Star rookie Fabio Quartararo beat the official Valencia race lap record on his way to leading the opening day of 2015 Moto3 testing.

The reigning CEV Moto3 champion is riding for Emilio Alzamora's Estrella Galicia 0.0 Honda team, which won last year's grand prix title with Alex Marquez.

Quartararo, who is just 15 years old, finished the day 0.023s ahead of Danny Kent (Leopard Racing), the former Husqvarna rider enjoying a strong start to his Honda career.

Enea Bastianini (Gresini) and Niccolo Antonelli (Ongetta) completed an all-Honda top four covered by 0.392s.

New Red Bull KTM Ajo signing Miguel Oliveira was 0.413s from Quartararo, followed by Husqvarna Factory Laglisse's Isaac Vinales and Oliveira's team-mate Karel Hanika.

Sky VR46 KTM rider Romano Fenati was eighth, followed by Aspar Mahindra team-mates Juanfran Guevara and Jorge Martin.

Brad Binder (Red Bull Ajo KTM), Alexis Masbou (Saxoprint-RTG), Livio Loi (RW Racing) and Quartararo's team-mate Jorge Navarro were the final riders within one-second of the flying young Frenchman.

Testing, alongside the Moto2 teams, continues on Wednesday.
