Honda's Fabio Quartararo might not be the only rookie challenging at the front of Moto3 this season.

While the young Frenchman has led both official pre-season tests, fellow newcomer Jorge Martin was just 0.013s slower at the conclusion of this week's Jerez outing.

"We already found a good set-up yesterday and today we started feeling very comfortable," said the new Aspar Mahindra rider. "I enjoyed riding from the first lap, I felt very comfortable on my race simulation and set a good pace using the medium compound tyre.

"Immediately after the simulation we put in the softest tyre and as soon as I went out I set my best lap. Obviously I had to push hard to set that time but in general I feel good and think we still have room to improve.

"As well as the fast laps that we set today we have a fast pace, which is important going into the first round of the championship. The team is working perfectly, as are technicians from Mahindra."

Team-mates Francesco Bagnaia and Juanfran Guevara were ninth and tenth respectively. One more pre-season test remains, back at Jerez in March.
