Marc Marquez has vowed to keep digging deep to maintain his presence at the top of the time sheets after taking top spot in FP1 ahead of Sunday's night race in Qatar.

The reigning MotoGP World Champion headed the timesheets in 1m 55.281s with team-mate Dani Pedrosa completing a Repsol Honda one-two in second place as practice blasted off under the floodlights at the Losail International Circuit.

Marquez, who is seeking a third straight premier class title in 2015, said: "It's good to start the season in this way. Also at this circuit Yamaha were really strong, but it looks like at the tests last week we found a good set-up and we are on a good level.

"In Malaysia and here, we improved the stability in the fast corners. Here Yamaha is still really strong in the fast corners, but we are much closer.

"But anyway here the problem is that the track changes a lot during the weekend and then everything can change. So we will stay focused and try to keep this level and prepare for the race, which is the most important.

"We tried a very small thing [with the set-up] to get more grip because when the tyres are used everybody is struggling. We tried to go in that way to get more grip. It looked like it was working well but still we need more laps," he added.

"How quickly you forget .....it was Dani who stopped the Marquez freight train of wins. If it was Rossi we would never hear the end of it."

Marquez' winning streak wasnt stopped by Dani. Dani's win came as Marquez slumped with issues to a 4th place finish. last year no one went toe to toe with Marquez and won. he was only ever beaten by Marquez.
