Dani Pedrosa was slightly surprised to dip under his best lap from the recent Qatar test as the Repsol Honda rider finished second quickest during FP1 at Losail.

Pedrosa lapped in 1m 55.357s as he finished 0.076s behind team-mate Marc Marquez on the factory RC213V and hailed a positive start to the weekend ahead of Sunday's night race under the floodlights at the desert venue.

"It's been a long day with a lot of press and things for 25 minutes riding, but we start well and this is positive," said Pedrosa.
