Pol Espargaro finished Sunday's Qatar MotoGP just a fraction behind Monster Yamaha Tech 3 team-mate Bradley Smith and top satellite rider Cal Crutchlow.

Afterwards the young Spaniard expressed his frustration at being unable to pass the riders ahead throughout the season-opening race.

"It was really bad because we are not competitive. We just looked at the fight from behind because we are not able to overtake," he said at the Losail circuit on Sunday. "When I was alone I was riding good and fast but when I caught Bradley it was impossible to overtake and catch Cal.

Espargaro believes his issues were partly caused by the anti-wheelie settings for his YZR-M1.

"We had a slight problem with the electronics throughout the weekend, which we were not able to clarify so we didn't adjust the traction control in order to remain in the best possible way. Therefore the setup of the anti-wheelie also wasn't ideal and I lost a lot in acceleration."
