Two second places in as many races means Ducati's Andrea Dovizioso has already matched his 2014 MotoGP podium tally.

The Italian may not have been fighting for victory on the final lap in Austin, as he had been in Qatar, but he did turn the tables on Losail winner Valentino Rossi.

Dovizioso re-passed the Yamaha rider with six laps to go, in a race dominated by Honda's reigning champion Marc Marquez.

"A special feeling. Second in the championship and one point behind Valentino. Two completely tracks and we finished second both times and today I beat Valentino on fighting so it's really nice for me," Dovizioso said.

Despite two strong performances, Dovizioso is waiting until the start of the European season to understand who will be the 2015 title contenders.

"Argentina is quite new for us, but from Jerez we can understand more the level of everybody for the championship."
