Jorge Lorenzo led the Yamaha challenge during MotoGP qualifying in Argentina, but was left fifth and 0.683s from Marc Marquez's pole time after 'too many mistakes' on his second lap.

"The pace was good at the beginning but it drops on the rear tyre as it wears," said the Spaniard. "In qualifying my first lap was very good but the second one I made too many mistakes and I couldn't improve the time.

"It's a pity because without any mistakes I could be in second place. That's racing; sometimes you don't get the perfect lap."

During final practice Rossi, Lorenzo and Dovizioso all set a similar race pace, with only Marquez a step ahead.

"We will probably go for the harder rear tyre but we still have to decide on the front for tomorrow's race," Lorenzo said.

Lorenzo led for the first 16 laps of last year's inaugural race at the Termas de Rio Hondo circuit, before being passed by Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa.

The double MotoGP champion is currently fifth in the 2015 standings and still seeking his first podium of the season.
