Marc Marquez believes he is closer to Jorge Lorenzo in terms of race pace in Le Mans compared to Jerez but he doesn't know whether it will be close enough.

The 22-year old was speaking at the qualifying press conference after claiming his third MotoGP pole position of 2015. Marquez ended the 15-minute shootout half a second clear of second placed Andrea Dovizioso and was content to be closer to the front after a difficult weekend.

"It's not been an easy weekend," said Marquez. "In free practice we try many, many things. Every time we go out the bike was different but when we go out in qualifying we put the best set up. Even then we change a small thing and it was working quite good.

"We will see tomorrow in the warm up but we are happy with the bike. Of course it looks like Jorge has a really good rhythm. We are closer than in Jerez, maybe not enough. I feel better than Jerez and this is the most important thing.

"When we go out in FP4 we see the track is dry. Then the question mark for everyone was how it will be in practice. We already saw on QP1 the guys were using slick tyres and the times were already fast.

"When we go out the track was completely dry. I expect the grip comes down but it was even better than this morning. It looks like in the morning we are struggling with low temperature but for me I feel on the track and bike when the temperature is higher."

His final qualifying time of 1m 32.2s was just two tenths of a second slower than own outright circuit record despite track conditions that weren't totally to Jorge Lorenzo's liking.

Marquez still needs to work on race rhythm in morning warm-up after a day in which he worked in a different way to cure his troubles.

"It's true that we work a little bit different. It's true that this morning we try to find our way. We weren't fast enough to be on top," said Marquez.

"We will see. Qualifying is only one lap and tomorrow in the warm-up I will try to work on the rhythm. But I know the pace of Lorenzo is better than mine. In Jerez I felt that I was more far from that pace. Here I feel that I am closer but maybe not enough."
