Valentino Rossi revealed that his early race pass on MotoGP title rival Marc Marquez wasn't entirely planned.

Speaking after the Le Mans race, Rossi explained the move that took fourth place from Marquez:

"For the overtake, I did a small mistake in braking and I arrive very fast. Usually if you continue to brake, is too risky, because sometimes you lose the front and then you can also bring down the other rider.

"So I have to release [the brake] and I overtake. I have to say a little bit sorry to Marc, because I bring him a little bit wide."

While Rossi also went on to overtake Ducati riders Andrea Iannone and Andrea Dovizioso for second place behind Yamaha team-mate Jorge Lorenzo, Marquez struggled to fourth.

Comparing the latest Honda and Yamaha, Rossi said: "Marc last year was a lot faster than us in braking. So he had a great advantage because also he can brake very deep, he can control the Honda very deep.

"We work, we work during all the season, it looks like this year our bike is better in braking. So we can use the good things of our bike during the corner, but at the same time we don't lose too much in braking compared to M?rquez."

Marquez is now 33 points behind Rossi, who has finished on the podium in all five events this season, including two wins.
