Aleix Espargaro will undergo surgery on the right hand injury sustained in a massive practice highside at Le Mans.

Although cleared to continue after x-rays at the Medical Centre, the Suzuki star underwent further checks in Barcelona today (Monday) which diagnosed a 'rupture of the collateral ligament of the thumb'.

Surgery will take place on Tuesday morning with Espargaro remaining in hospital overnight. The Spaniard is aiming to be fit for the forthcoming Italian round at the end of this month.
