Ducati test rider Michele Pirro is rubbing his hands at the prospect of riding the GP15 for the first time in a race scenario at this weekend's sixth round of the MotoGP World Championship at Mugello in Italy.
Pirro will join Andrea Dovizioso and Andrea Iannone after being entered in Ducati's home race as a wild-card rider, making it three GP15s on the gird on Sunday.
The Italian is having his first race since Valencia in 2014, where he finished ninth, and Pirro is relishing the chance to produce a solid result in front of his home fans this weekend.
“I am very pleased to do my first wild-card race of the year at Mugello, and it's also really exciting for me to race for the first time with the GP15,” he said.
“In five races the new Desmosedici has already scored five podiums, proving to be very competitive and so it's a big responsibility for me, but with the Ducati Test Team we have always done a good job on the bike's development and so I am confident we can obtain a good result.”
Pirro previously finished seventh at Mugello in 2013 after replacing the injured Ben Spies.
